VicePoint HUD: Dynamic Reticle & Hitmarker for GTA 5

VicePoint is a HUD mod for GTA 5 that overhauls the reticle and hitmarker to deliver more dynamic, readable combat feedback while shooting. It draws inspiration from the dynamic crosshair and hit-feedback approach shown in GTA VI preview material, then adapts that concept to what GTA 5’s engine allows. The result is a more informative aim experience: hit feedback changes by outcome, recoil/accuracy feel is separated, and the reticle behavior responds to camera and aiming context.

• Weapon-class base reticles: pistols use a minimalist tri-arm layout (left, right, bottom with a hollow center), shotguns use calibrated symmetrical curved brackets, and rifles/SMGs/machine guns keep a clean center dot that blooms into a compact circle when aiming and expands during firing
• Decoupled recoil vs accuracy feedback: every shot triggers an instant recoil kick and smoothly eases back to center using a quadratic curve, independent of hit confirmation
• Adaptive hit & kill feedback: non-lethal hits show a universal white hollow partial X overlay; lethal body kills switch the crosshair to yellow with a matching yellow X overlay; headshots/critical kills keep the crosshair clean white with a red X overlay
• First-person scope handling: reticles remain visible during 3rd-person and standard 1st-person ADS, but hide seamlessly during high-magnification scope zoom (leaving only hitmarkers active)

The mod also includes a native fallback for weapons not yet covered by the GTA VI preview lineup (snipers, heavy launchers, throwables, melee), so those categories smoothly retain GTA V’s original reticles. It further supports resolution-independent rendering: mathematical aspect-ratio correction keeps circles and brackets perfectly proportional across 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9 displays. Configuration is provided via VicePoint.ini, including options such as AlwaysShowAimDot (persistent center aim dot) and vehicle-specific behavior. Updates in v0.1, v0.1.1 (hotfix), and v0.1.2 improve reticle and hitmarker texture clarity and remove unnecessary external dependencies to reduce silent script-loading failures on GTA 5.
